Beechworth Coffee Roasters is now proudly owned and operated by Karla & Angus Florance, building on the strong foundation established by former owner Ben Ryder.

We’re Karla and Angus, coffee lovers, parents and now the proud new owners of this small but passionate roastery here in Beechworth. Taking over from Ben has been both exciting and humbling. We’ve spent the past few months roasting your favourite blends, meeting so many of our customers, and continuing the tradition of crafting beautiful, small-batch coffee for our community and beyond.

Up until a few years ago, we were living and working in Melbourne- busy jobs, long commutes and dreaming of a slower, more connected life. Karla worked in corporate supply chain and manufacturing and Angus has been with Microsoft for more than 15 years. Like many, the pandemic gave us a nudge to finally make that “tree change” and Beechworth felt like the perfect place to put down roots.

Coffee has always been a part of our lives, not just as a drink, but as a ritual. Wherever we travel, we seek out local roasters and cafes to connect with the people and stories behind each cup. So, when the opportunity came up to take over Beechworth Coffee Roasters - a roastery we’d admired for years, we couldn’t say no.

Now, with our two kids, Ava (11) and Rafael (8), we’re lucky to call this community home. Karla, who grew up in Peru, a country steeped in coffee-growing heritage, now leads the roasting and deliveries, while Angus looks after the behind-the-scenes operations that keep everything humming. Our goal is simple: to keep bringing delicious, ethically sourced coffee to this beautiful region, roasted with care and purpose.
